TITLE: A MAN CALLED OVE

AUTHOR: FREDRICK BACKMAN

GENRE: FICTION, NOVEL

GOODREADS SYNOPSIS:

A grumpy yet loveable man finds his solitary world turned on its head when a boisterous young family moves in next door.
Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon, the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him the bitter neighbour from hell, but must Ove be bitter just because he doesn’t walk around with a smile plastered to his face all the time?
Behind the cranky exterior, there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul. All of which will change one cranky old man and a local residents’ association to their very foundations.

MY REVIEW:

I picked up this book after so many recommendations. I have seen a lot of Bookstagrammers adored this book. It is a translated work from the Swedish language.
It is the story of Ove and his ordinary world. The premise and the way the story has written make it an extraordinary one. The book tells about the deepness and serenity of relationships. In this modern time, our society gradually losing the true essence of genuine connections. This book holds an optimistic message that kindness and love are still lurking beneath every human mind. You need to evoke them up.
He carefully knitted each character with a thread of innocence. Trust me you will fall in love with these characters. The charm of the book is undefinable. Reading this will assuredly bring you joy.
As I said the author’s writing style is simple yet commendable; the translator has done justice to the original work. It has discussed a few socially relevant issues like dominance and corruption of government officials and the life of old people.
If you haven’t read this book yet, DO READ IT! You will admire it for sure.
